Netherlands chooses Telepass as service provider for new truck toll system

The RDW – the road transport authority of the Netherlands – has approved Telepass as a provider for the Dutch truck toll, which will start on 1 July 2026. This makes Telepass the second EETS provider to have successfully completed all the accreditation stages. EETS stands for European Electronic Toll Service.

EETS providers supply onboard units that record the kilometres for the truck toll. From 1 July, all trucks must have a working onboard unit to pay the truck toll in the Netherlands.

In addition to Telepass, TotalEnergies has already been approved as an EETS provider. Four other EETS providers are expected to follow soon: Axxes, Eurowag, Toll4Europe and tolltickets.

In addition, the service provider NedLinq supplies onboard units that only work in the Netherlands. Transport operators can already register with these providers, or via partners (such as fuel card providers).

Telepass: Expansion of the European network

Telepass is an Italian company that provides electronic toll and integrated mobility services across Europe. Telepass has been registered as an EETS provider since 2016. With this admission, the Netherlands becomes the 19th country in which Telepass offers its services.

“Obtaining EETS certification in the Netherlands is a strategic milestone in a key market for European logistics,” said Paolo Malerba, head of tolling services at Telepass.

“Telepass supplies the only 4G device certified in 19 countries, ensuring seamless European interoperability, operational continuity and full control over the fleet. This makes it easier for fleet managers and truck drivers to manage their toll payments on key routes between Italy and Northern Europe, improving efficiency and reliability.”

RDW: Pleased with the admission of Telepass

With Telepass, the Netherlands gains a new provider with extensive experience in the European transport sector.

Jan Strijk, toll collection director at the RDW, said: “We are pleased that Telepass has successfully completed the admission procedure. Telepass is a well-known European player. With this approval, they are adding the Dutch truck toll to their services. It is good to see that Telepass is fully ready.”

Admissions process

The admission process for EETS providers consists of an assessment of legal, financial and technical suitability, followed by various technical and practical tests. The RDW examines aspects such as data exchange, information security and the functioning of the onboard equipment.
